Floor

We always recommend that you choose materials for the floor build-up that are vapour-open, non-toxic and have low embodied carbon. There are a number of insulating and free-draining materials that can be used in solid floor build-ups. For example loose-fill foamed glass, or silica-coated expanded clay, aggregate can be used as an insulating free draining sub-base for a lime sand screed. This layer should extend up to external ground level, so that groundwater and moisture is able to move freely under the building instead of being wicked up into the walls.
